Many teams use communication apps to share their progress, ask questions and motivate one another. Because our team is located all over the country, apps have increased our communication capabilities tremendously
The other day, one of my mentors posted the list of positive affirmations that he uses on a daily basis. The reason behind this is to give examples of affirmations teammates can adopt to increase their production, and belief in themselves.
Positive affirmations have been proven by countless leaders across multiple streams of business to work. The idea behind them is that “what you think about, you bring about.” Telling yourself positive things on a daily basis actually rewires our brains to approach problems in business and life in a positive way instead of sinking into despair when things don’t go our way. In the book, Unf**k Yourself, by Gary John Bishop, the author says, “I’m not going to tell you to tell yourself ‘I’m a tiger,’ because, well… You’re not a tiger.” That is true. Though you are not a tiger, what are you? Are you strong, are you a fierce competitor? Are you at the top of the food chain? I think you just might be, even if you do not believe it yet.
When you tell yourself things like, “I am no good at this.” Over and over, eventually, you will believe them. However, if you tell yourself things like, “I am learning, and I am getting better every day” eventually you will believe that to be true.
The human mind is an incredible thing. And it operates almost entirely on the subconscious. When we feed our subconscious minds certain thoughts by repetition, we remember them and use these things as truths for the rest of our lives.
Example:
What’s 6x6?
Bet you said 36 without even thinking about it.
Why? Because this has been ingrained into your subconscious as fact. Because your brain recognizes this as fact, you will automatically respond with the answer. This is exactly why positive self-talk is so important. Tell yourself on a daily basis, “I am a champion” you will believe it. When you believe it, and you take action that a champion would take, your results are sure to follow.
This process is something called “TBAR” which is explained in depth in Ian Prukner’s book, Byproduct.
The general premise of the book is that the results you see in life follow a specific path that starts in the mind. Illustrated below, is the idea.
THOUGHTS become BELIEFS, BELIEFS become ACTIONS, ACTIONS become RESULTS.
If you want “better” results in your life, you better start thinking better about what you do, what you want, where you’re going, and yourself.
No one lives in your skin but you, so I have to ask, are the thoughts that you are thinking about yourself the things that you would say to your best friend? If not, then you need to start talking to yourself as if you were your own best friend. Because in the end, the one person who you can never escape from in this life is yourself. Why aren’t you your own best friend?
After the affirmations were originally posted by our leader, I decided to post a photo of the affirmations I am currently using for myself. After that, a few other teammates posted their own affirmations in the chat thread! It was truly inspiring to see a team of absolute champions being vulnerable enough to share what they are doing to better themselves on a daily basis. Winners recognize where they need to improve and will always strive to get better. Remember that!
The best part of the entire exchange was when one of our leaders looked at the numbers. The ones who had posted that they are using positive affirmations in their daily lives are the only ones on the team who have closed business so far in the month. The only ones who had. Which to me, is proof positive that this works. It might feel a bit silly at first but giving it a shot never hurts anyone! That was how I felt about affirmations at the beginning of my journey.
“This feels so weird.” I thought. But I kept doing it. I kept doing it because the people who were telling me that it had worked for them are far more successful than I am. They are where I want to go, and have been where I am. I am not a child anymore, unable to recognize that others do in fact know what is best for me. Not listening to someone who knows more than you do, as an adult is simply foolhardy. You’ve got to believe you’re a winner, be coachable, do the work, and eventually, you will not lose.
Below, are the affirmations that I personally speak aloud and write multiple times a day.
I am strong. I am capable of building a big team. The right people do want to work with me. I am getting better every day. I am a Regional Vice President. I am a $100,000 earner. I am a great business owner. I am a great partner. I am a great parent. Money is my friend, and it comes easily to me. I attract champions and winners. I am wealthy. I am a leader. People listen when I speak. I embody love. I have Jesus on my side. I am not afraid of failure.
